KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon’s complaints hearing commission on Tuesday said 8.5 acres of land belonging to the Radio Television Afghanistaninfo-icon (RTA) has been sold to the British Embassy and the Asian Development Bank against the country’s laws.

The Senate commission head, Zalmay Zabuli, said nearly nine acres of the RTA land had been sold to the UK Embassy against the law.

He said the government could only provide land for embassies but could not sell them.

But he added the National Unity Government (NUG) leaders sold the RTA lands to foreign countries against the law.

According to his information, former president Hamid Karzai also sold more than four acres of land to the Canadian embassy against $11 million in 2006.

He said the Canadian Embassy has been so far not given the money to the Afghan government.

He claimed earlier lands of the American university in Kabul and the Markaz-i-Selo had been also sold on foreigners.

He warned if the NUG leaders did not pay attention to the issue, they would face serious reaction from the people.

In reaction, RTA projects’ observer director Ghulam Jilani said according the Ministry of Finance’s demand, three acres of land should be given to the British Embassy.

But he said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs without the RTA agreement had given more than six acres of land to the British Embassy and above six acres to the Asian Bank.

However, Zalmay Zabuli said they had met several times with the authorities concerned in this regard but failed to elicit a convincing answer from them.

Ghulam Jilani said one part of the RTA’s land had been given to the British Embassy, one to the Canada embassy and a third to the Asian Bank.

On the other hand, the MoF did not want to share comment in this regard.

At the gathering, President Ashraf Ghani decree was also read out about RTA land.

The decree said the MoF should give the RTA land to the British Embassy after completing all legally processes.
