KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan Womeninfo-icon’s Network (AWN) on Thursday called for resumption of peace talks which the group said should be associated with ceasefire and intra-Afghan dialogue.

Roshan Mashaal, coordinator of AWN, told a press conference here: “As a stable, just and inclusive peace is the only way of ending the four-decade-old conflict and bloodshed in Afghanistaninfo-icon. We want resumption of peace negotiations on the condition that ceasefire be observed and intra-Afghan talks started first.”

She said AWN wanted gender equality and meaningful participation of women in the peace process and asked the countries involved to give women part in decision making, planning, initial negotiations, peace talks and agreements.

“Considering the experience of nine rounds of talks between the US and Talibaninfo-icon, we ask the international community to provide a clear mechanism for sharing accurate information about the peace process with the Afghan people and publish the mechanism publicly,” she said.

She also read out a AWN statement that asked the international community to continue supporting peace movements, particularly of women.

It said international community’s financial cooperation was important for ensuring peace and security in Afghanistan in the current situation.
