NATO won’t reduce troops in Afghanistan: Khalid

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalild has said that NATOinfo-icon members have made no decision about a troop drawdown from Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Speaking at a press conference in Brussels on Friday after the alliance defense ministers meeting, Khalild said all NATO allies and Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg had reaffirmed their cooperation and assistance with Afghan security forces.

The Afghan defense minister said NATO allies had praised the Afghan security forces for their proficiency and achievements.

The NATO defense ministers had made no decision about troops’ reduction and instead emphasized on continued cooperation and assistance, Khalid added.

He informed that the Afghan security forces would continue their operations against Talibaninfo-icon across the country until a peace deal was reached with them.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Defense in a statement said Khalid met with NATO chief and defense ministers of Italy, Germany and Turkey on the sidelines of the meeting.
