SHARAN (Pajhwok): The governor of southeastern Paktika province on Sunday rejected claims about Pakistani forces capturing parts of Barmal district.

Earlier in the day, Gomal residents accused Pakistaninfo-icon’s paramilitary forces of installing barbed wire along the border in the remote district.

At a gathering, also attended by the security personnel, tribal elders said the militiamen were stringing concertina wire in the Raidan area of the district.

But Governor Mujibur Rahman Chamkani told a news conference that he sent a delegation to the district to investigate allegations.

He said the delegation had informed him that the Pakistan paramilitary troops had not crossed the Zero Point on the border.

The governor said the Afghan forces were capable of defending the territorial integrity of their motherland and they would not let the Pakistanis cross into their land.

Speaking on the occasion, 203rd Military Corps Commander Gen. Raham Dil Haiderzai also endorsed the governor’s view.

Similarly, Mohammad Zarif Zazai of the Border Police Force also denied the claims of the Pakistani forces entering Gomal district.

He said they had a meeting with the Pakistani border guards discussed the issue of respect for the Zero Point.
