8 members of a family killed in Paktia airstrike

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Eight members of a family have been killed in an airstrike in Zazai Aryub district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.

The government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the airstrike hit a corolla vehicle that carried three children, three womeninfo-icon and two men.

Hafeezullah Mubarez, a tribal elder, said all those killed in the airstrike were civilians and members of the same family.

But police in a statement said five Talibaninfo-icon onboard the vehicle were killed in the airstrike.

Another government source said the victims were returning coming from funeral for a local Taliban commander Shotai when came under attack.

He said Commander Shotai’s brother, father in law, sister in law, sister, mother in law and three children were killed in the airstrike.

US Forces in Kabulinfo-icon said they considered civilian casualties claims seriously and investigated them all.

“We are investigating the incident and will share more details.”
