KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of five districts of southern Kandahar province near Pakistaninfo-icon are complaining about no development projects in their areas during the past two decades.

Elders of these districts say the central government has never provided them services and demand uniform uplift projects in their areas.

Haji Fida Mohammad Afghan, local elder in Spin Boldak district and a member of the Provincial Council, said five districts --- Spin Boldak, Arghistan, Maroof and Registan ---- shared border with Pakistan.

He deplored no attention had been paid to development of these districts during the past two decades.

He said children in these districts were deprived of educationinfo-icon facilities while their residents had to travel long distance to get healthinfo-icon facilities.

Abdullah Afghan, a resident of Maroof district, said residents of Maroof and other districts had long been deprived of education, health, telecommunication and many other primary facilities.

He said Maroof district was in Talibaninfo-icon’s control and the government held control over a few check-posts in Saleson locality on the border.

He said the most dangerous fact was non-availability of schools due to which the future of children was being threatened.

Haji Agha Lalai, deputy head of Social Affairs Department, said these districts had not been paid attention in the past, a fact he acknowledged.

It is worth mentioning that Gul Agha Sherzai, Minister for Borders and Tribal Affairs, recently traveled to Spin Boldak district and made commitment with its residents to resolve their problems.
