Reforms aimed benefitting from Afghanistan geopolitics: MoFA

Nov 16, 2019 - 18:13

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said multifaceted reforms have been underway in the ministry to take maximum advantage of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s geopolitical location in regional connectivity for trade.

MoFA spokesman Garan Hewad told a press conference here that the reforms were ongoing in fields of recruitment, laws, structure and cadre, policies and doctrine of foreign politics.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy for commerce has been working on a policy to convert Afghanistan from a landlocked country into a best connected country.”

Hewad rejected claims that tribal discrimination plagued the foreign ministry and some individuals had been dismissed as a result of the bias.

He also said that Pakistaninfo-icon’s deputy foreign minister and ISIinfo-icon chief visited Kabul to discuss the issue of Afghan Market in Peshawar and both the sides agreed that the issue should be resolved through legal means.

The Afghan Market building is located in Ferdaus area of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and is owned by the Afghanistan Milli Bank, but a man, Shaukat Kashmiri claims ownership of the land.

The Pakistan Supreme Court decided in favour of Kashmiri and local police then removed the Afghanistan flag from the Afghan market, but the Afghan ambassador raised the national flag on the market again next day.
