KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Presidential candidate Gulbuddin Hekmatyar on Tuesday demanded trial of those involved in electoral fraud during the presidential election and warned of unexpected consequences if fraudulent votes would were legitimized.

Hekmatyar, also head of Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA), told reporters here that he would not participate in the negotiating team chosen by the government for intra-Afghan talks in China.

He asked the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) to pay attention to candidates’ legal demands.

Election

Presidential election was held on September 28. Earlier the IEC had given October 19 the date for announcement of preliminary result while November 7 for announcement of final result of the presidential election.

But due to some technical issues and problems during separation of clean and fraudulent votes, the IEC could not announce the result on its due date.

On October 27, the IEC said primary result of the presidential election would be announced on November 14, but the commission again delayed the date for an indefinite time.

Hekmatyar said the preliminary results were expected on November 14, but the outcome was delayed.

Hekmatyar, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and a number of other candidates claim fraud in the election and say they would not accept the result.

Hekmatyar said non-biometric and illegal votes should be invalidated, 300,000 affected and quarantined votes should be removed from the system amd election conducted again in polling stations where biometric devices were lost.

He said all votes should be recounted in presence of observers and those who committed electoral crimes and Dermalog Company should be tried.

He said Dermalog Company had said 1.2 million votes were fraudulent, 300,000 votes were affected and quarantined and biometric devices of over 2,400 polling stations had been lost.

“The IEC should respond who used 1.2 million votes and who facilitated it, and who stole devices of over 2,400 polling stations,” he said.

In response to a question regarding his meeting with Abdullah on Monday, he said, “It is a good question. It should have happened before, it was an unexpected and a good development, at a a good time. We talked about a lot of issues and we had a lot of agreements.”

He said he and Abdullah talked about how to have a shared position about ‘fraudulent election’ and take effective steps against it.

“We were able to explain our positions, we also talked about the future and we would work to permanently prevent failed past experiences,” he said.

Peace

Hekmatyar said a peace agreement was expected but suddenly ‘organized incidents’ stopped the peace talks.

He said prisoner swap between the Talibaninfo-icon and the US was almost done when an operation conducted in Kabul and Logar delayed the deal.

Without giving details, he said an international, skillful, equipped and dangerous network was behind such activities.

American and Taliban prisoners are reportedly released today.

China meeting

An intra-Afghan meeting between Afghan politicians and Taliban representatives is expected to be held in near future in China.

Hekmatyar said he would not participate in the intra-Afghan meeting in which most of the participants were warmongers or government figures.

“The participants of this meeting should be peaceful people and have a clear position”, he added.
