KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United Nations deputy chief says womeninfo-icon's inclusion is central to lasting peace in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Amina Mohammed reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people and government in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The UN’s deputy-secretary-general said this at the launching ceremony of the Group of Friends of Women in Afghanistan in New York.

Xinhua quoted her as saying: "Women's inclusion is critical to sustainable peace and development in Afghanistan. Afghan women can rely on the full solidarity and commitment of everyone here today…”

She said women's priorities were the priorities of all Afghans -- a ceasefire, disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration, transitional justice and security sector reform.

“These priorities must be included in the peace process not because they will benefit women, but because they will benefit everyone,” sh stressed.

Comprised of women representatives to the UN and other senior officials, the group has been constituted by the Afghan Mission to the worldinfo-icon body,

This group will work for protecting women's rights and the role they can play across societyinfo-icon and government, including in peace efforts.
