KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Projects have been launched to rehabilitate pine nut and walnut forests in southeastern Khost province, an official said on Wednesday.

Governor Mohammad Halim Fedayee said the forests had been damaged by war in Spera, Dwamanda, Tanai, Zazai Maidan and Musakhel districts.

“Two million and 160,000 saplings of pine nuts and walnuts will be distributed to 360 farmers --- and 2,700 hectares of land will be converted into forests,” he added.

A tribal elder from Dwamanda district, Abdul Rahman, told Pajhwok they were pleased to see the government launching projects to rehabilitate the forests.

“Many trees have been cut in mountains and it would be better if the government plants pine nut and walnut trees there,” he added.
