KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghanistaninfo-icon were bundled out for 187 runs on the opening day of the one-off Test match against West Indies in Lucknow on Wednesday.

A dozen wickets tumbled on day 1, when bowlers from both sides looked impressive.

Rakheem Cornwall, spinning a web around the Afghan batsmen, bagged seven wickets. His accurate spell triggered Afghanistan’s batting collapse.

For their part, Afghan spinners also managed to send Brathwaite and Hope back to the pavilion. However, Shamarh Brooks (19) and John Campbell (30) stayed unbeaten at stumps.

Earlier, the West Indian skipper won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first -- a decision that apparently paid off as Afghanistan were kept in check effectively.

Ibrahim Zadran was dismissed for 17 by Rahkeem Cornwall and Javed Ahmadi fell to Jomel Warrican after scoring 39, including five boundaries and a six.

Javed Ahmadi (39), Hamza Hotak (34), Afsar Zazai (32) and Ihsanullah (24) lent some respectability to Afghanistan’s first innings total.

Both teams are familiar with the conditions in Lucknow, where West Indies whitewashed Afghanistan 3-0 in the ODI series.

Later on, the hosts staged a comeback and clinched the Twenty20 series 2-1, with Karim Janat playing a vital role in the success of his side.
