Trump’s Afghanistan visit slammed as a photo-op

Trump’s Afghanistan visit slammed as a photo-op

Dec 02, 2019 - 10:50

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump’s recent visit with American troops in Afghanistaninfo-icon has been slammed a mere photo-opportunity.

Fox News commentator Juan Williams rejected Trump’s visit as an attempt at diverting attention from his impeachment.

The American political analyst commented: “We were all surprised when suddenly we heard the president was in Afghanistan, I’m sure he genuinely wanted to support the US forces …”

The journalist said: “Everything is political, doesn’t make it a little bit harder to impeach the president when you see him right there as our commander-in-chief?”

The visit appeared to be a photo-op, he said, adding the US leader had not visited any war zone until last year. “This is the first visit to Afghanistan, our longest war, 2,000 plus Americans dead. He had no preparation.”

Williams also referred to Trump’s talk about a ceasefire, saying US military commanders were unaware of any truce with the Talibaninfo-icon.

“He then talked about negotiations with the Taliban. And again, his own diplomats said we know nothing about any ongoing talks with the Taliban,” the journalist continued.
