KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member on Wednesday said police in Kabul detained an Afghan American trader for 36 hours without any crime and sought $600,000 from him.

Abdul Satar Hussaini, a lawmaker from western Farah province, told today’s session that personnel of the major crime task force of the Ministry of Interior arrested Hilal Wardak, an Afghan American trader, in Kabul airport last week and jailed him for 36 hours.

He claimed the trader was arrested on the orders of deputy interior minister Khoshal Sadat and was told to give Sadat’s uncle $600,000.

Hussaini alleged the major crime task force head told the trader to make a deal with Sadat’s uncle otherwise he would be beaten.

Hussaini said HilalWardak after spending 36 hours in prison was released by the acting Defence Minister.

He urged the Wolesi Jirga administrative board to investigate the issue seriously and introduce Khoshal Sadat to the attorney office.

Wolesi Jirga speaker Mir RahmanRahmani said he was also aware of the incident. He said, “The trader was taken to jail from the airport gate and held for 36 hours.”

Rahmani tasked the interior affairs commission to invite Khoshal Sadat to the house to provide explanation about the issue.

Pajhwok failed to contact HilalWardak but Nasrat Rahimi, MoI spokesman, said he had no information from the matter but it would be investigated.
