$2bn project to creat jobs launched in Jalalabad

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Around 10,000 people will get work oppertunites in projects worth two billion dollors to be implemented in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.

The program is being implemented by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) to narrow the gap between the government and people and prevent the youth from joining Daesh isurgents.

The program was inagurtaed in the Governor House by provincial officials and IDLG members.

Jalalabad City Mayor Rohul Amin Hassan said the projects would be implemented in cooperation with Jalalabad Municipality in nine muncipality districts through 340 councils. Each council will get $200,000.

The councils will spent funds on projects of their need in their areas, which will help generate work opportunities for repatriates and displaced persons, said the mayor.

Governor Shah Mahmood Meiakhel said terroists wanted to stop progress and they recently killed Japanese physician Tetsu Nakamura, who was known for his services to the country.

He added the purpose of lunching the program was to give the terrorists a clear message that they could stop development and prosperity. He said thte the Worldinfo-icon Bank-funded program was being implemented by IDLG.
