Kunar governor vows to promote use of local currency

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): The Governor of eastern Kunar province Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal on Thursday said that Afghani currency was a national identity and its use will be made common in coming months.

Addressing reporters here Governor Mirzakwal said he had created a plan to ensure the use of local currency in the market.

He warned individuals and institutions that would commit negligence in promoting local currency would be dealt according to the law.

He directed transport and municipality departments to monitor the price list of fares issued in local currency.

He said businessmen could use foreign currencies in other provinces but in Kunar only afghani will be legitimate currency.

He said if government officials possessed Pakistani rupee in their pockets and used them in buying commodities they would be punished.

It is pertinent to mention that in most eastern and western provinces of Afghanistaninfo-icon Pakistani and Iranian currencies are used in the markets.
