Nakamura’s murder planned outside Afghanistan: Governor

Nakamura’s murder planned outside Afghanistan: Governor

Dec 05, 2019 - 18:24

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday claimed the attack on widely respected Japanese aid worker Nakamura was planned outside the country and was politically motivated.

“Dr. Nakamura’s driver and four of his bodyguards were killed in the shooting,” said Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial government spokesman the previous day, adding the gunmen fled and police were investigating the incident.

Dr. Nakamura did a lot of works for development of agriculture, irrigation, healthcare and education and won people’s hearts. His services to the people earned him the nickname ''Uncle Murad."

The Taliban issued a statement soon after the shooting denying responsibility for the attack.

Without naming any country or giving details, Nangarhar Governor Mahmood Miakhel said Nakamura’s killing was political.

Addressing reporters at the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) office here, the governor said the government was aware of threats to Nakamura and had provided him more security which made him unhappy.

“Our security personnel are collecting more information, some evidence and information are available, but I will not give more details. The plan of his murder was made outside the country,” he said.
