IFJ seeks greater security for Afghan media workers

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Friday call for stronger security measures for journalists reporting in the field.
The IFJ call came days after a roadside bomb seriously injured a reporter travelling in a military convoy in southern Helmand province.
Sardar Mohammad Sarwari, a reporter with Shamshad TV, suffered serious injuries to his head in the the Talibaninfo-icon attack on the convoy travelling from Lashkargah to Marja.
The reporter was accompanying security forces on a military operation against Taliban in the Marja district, which has been under Taliban control for four years.
In a statement, the IFJ said: “We condemn this violent attack, which included civilian casualties. Afghanistaninfo-icon remains the word’s most deadly workplace for journalists.”
The federation urged more efforts to train media and ensure their employers took every precaution when their staff went out into the field or ere embedded.
