KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has ruled out any compromise on people’s rights, stressing adherence to the rule of law in the country.
Addressing a meeting at his office, Ghani promised a return to past illegalities would not be allowed, a statement from the Presidential Palace said on Friday.
Second Vice-President Sarwar Danish and members of the State Builders electoral team attended Thursday’s meeting.
The president thanked people for supporting his electoral team, saying their voting choice was futuristic and driven by the national interest.
The rule of law is a fundamental way of resolving problems, he said, adding the constitution did not allow any compromise on people’s rights.
Elections were reflective of the nation’s will, the president said. “The rule of law and democracy are red lines for us and there can be no give and take on these issues.”
He continued: “We have a consensus on not returning to illegalities of the past. We won’t allow anyone to divide our Afghan brothers and sisters who have equal rights.”
