KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The only way forward in Afghanistaninfo-icon is a ceasefire and Talibaninfo-icon’s engagement with the Afghan government and people, says a former Indian diplomat.

Once the militant movement entered talks with Kabul, New Delhi would have no reluctance engaging with the Taliban, said Amar Sinha, India’s ex-ambassador to Afghanistan.

Speaking at WION's Worldinfo-icon Order Conference in New Delhi on Thursday, he said: “Today, I don't see anything that can be brought to the table by Taliban for us…”

He defended Delhi’s policy not to engage with terrorist organisations or those aiding anti-India groups. He blamed the Haqqani Networkinfo-icon for deadly attacks against his country in Kabul.

“So, I don't think we should forgive them as easily. Let the Afghan people accept them, we have stood behind the Afghan government."

According to India Today, Sinha maintained the policy of not engaging with the Taliban had not boomeranged on India, which stoutly supported Afghanistan.
