Peace deal will define future of Danish troops in Afghanistan: Envoy

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Denmark Deputy Head of Mission to Kabul Rene Taus Hansen on Sunday said his country supported every step that could bring peace and stability to Afghanistaninfo-icon and end the conflict.

Hansen expressed the in a gathering marking end to the 16-day campaign on violence against womeninfo-icon.

He said Denmark wanted the establishment of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan that will end violence and instability in the war-torn country.

When asked about the future of Danish troops in Afghanistan, Hansen said the peace agreement with armed opponent group would decide the fate of their troops in Afghanistan.

The envoy hailed the progress of women in the past 18 years and added some factor still denied equal rights to women and their progress.

Surge in women lawmakers in the parliament, decline in women maternity mortality rate, women social and economic development and increase in the number of girls attending schools are some of the progress made in the past 18 years, according to the Danish envoy.

He said Denmark was closely working with UN and Human Rights Commission to reduce and eradicate violence against women in Afghanistan.
