KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Public representatives and residents of northern Kunduz province on Sunday said Talibaninfo-icon militants were training new recruits in Imaminfo-icon Sahib district, a claim the rebels rejected.

Khalil Qarizadah, a member of the Provincial Council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban had constructed recruitment and training centers for new comers in Jangal area of the district.

He said, “The newly recruited militants have been receiving military training in these centers.”

He added the issue had been shared with security forces, but no one so far paid attention.

Zabihullah, a resident of the district, also confirmed Taliban training centers in their district, saying the recruits were given military training.

Ghulam Hazrat, another resident of Imam Sahib district, told Pajhwok that besides local Taliban militants, a number of foreign militants had been seen in the same centers.

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the government to pay attention to the matter.

Meanwhile, Mahboobullah Sayeedi, the district administrative chief, also confirmed the Taliban ran training centers and their recruitment was underway in the Jangal area. He termed the training centers a huge concern for the entire region.

Police chief Brig. Gen. Rashid Bashir told Pajhwok that security forces planned to conduct clearing operations in areas where Taliban militants have presence.

On the other hand, Taliban militants rejected the claims. The group spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Pajhwok they ran no training centers in Imam Sahib district.

He added, “We have training and recruitment centers in some other places of the province and there is no need for such centers in Jangal area.”
