Taliban allow power repair to Kandahar, Lashkargah

Taliban allow power repair to Kandahar, Lashkargah

Dec 31, 2019 - 19:08

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Electricity supply from the Kajaki hydropower dam to Kandahar and Lashkargha Cities would be resumed soon after the government and Talibaninfo-icon agreed not to use electricity as a political tool.

Amanullah AyubFaroqi, Da Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshna Shirkat (DABS) head for Kandahar Zone, said the 110KV electricity cable was cut loose between Sangin district and Kashkargh twin road areas 20 days earlier.

He said DABS workers were not allowed by Taliban militants to repair the cable as the rebels wanted electricity engineers to move on the road under their control.

However, the government wanted the technicians to use another alternative road under its control and these differences halted resumption of electricity for more than 20 days now, he said.

He, however, said local elders were dragged into the matter to resolve it. Kandahar and Helmand governors also visited DABS officials and discussed with them the issue of electricity.

At the end, it was decided that no party would use electricity as a political tool. After discussions, four roads were identified on which DABS engineers would travel.

Farooqi said permission to reconnect electricity had been sought and their teams were ready to travel to the area and repair the electricity.
