Govt urged to turn Torabora into tourist attraction

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Officials and residents of Pachirawgam district of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday urged the government to establish hotels at sightseeing places in the Torabora area of the district.

They said the district’s historical sites were cleared of armed men’s presence few years ago but the government did not pay attention to their reconstructioninfo-icon.

In 2001, when the Talibaninfo-icon regime was coming to an end, US troops dropped heavy bombs on the area and after that children would born malformed for many years.

In the past, the area was controlled by Taliban and Daesh rebels, but it was cleared of their presence as a result of recent security operations and uprising.

Residents of the area claim the area has natural views and places for sightseeing and government should create some parks for tourists there.

Wahidullah, a resident of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the government should construct the district road first. He said some hotels were built, the area would change into a tourist destination in future.

Zabihullah, another resident, said local residents not only faced the road issue but they were also concerned about lack of healthcare services, educationinfo-icon, reconstruction projects and public services.

He said a large number of youths were unemployed due to the long-running conflict in the area. He urged the government to provide job opportunities for the youth.

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the government to initiate some reconstruction projects in their district and pay attention to the historical sites as well.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, said efforts were underway to carry out some reconstruction projects in Torabora in future.
