26 women graduate as vaccinators in Faryab

26 women graduate as vaccinators in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Twenty-six womeninfo-icon completed a three-month vaccination training program in northeastern Faryab province on Thursday, local officials said.

Dr. Mohammad Maruf Samar, head of Samar Outpatient Clinic, addressed the graduation ceremony of the training program organized by Samar Outpatient Clinic, supported by USAIDinfo-icon’s Promote program.

Smar said there was a shortage of vaccinators in Faryab and that was the reason they decided to train 26 women in 16 state-run clinics and seven private clinics in cooperation with Promote program.

He said the participants of the program attained skills of vaccination and information about nine types of diseases that could be cured by vaccines.

Dr. Esmatullah Mohammadi, in charge of the immunization department of Maimana Civil Hospital in the capital of Faryab, welcomed the initiative and said that there were 128 vaccinators in 68 healthcare centers in the province but less than 10 of them were skilled ones.

He said professional vaccinators, particularly women, would be effective in implementing vaccination campaigns.

Faryab Governor Naqibullah Fayeq said there were no professional vaccinators in Faryab and that was the reason vaccination campaigns could not be implemented properly.

“Professional vaccinators should be increased by 10 times the number of graduates who received their certificates today,” he said.

He was dissatisfied from the USAID Promote program and said the program had no activities for the last few years and it had implemented only two programs at the end of the year.
