Jan 09, 2020 - 15:20

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Airstrikes killed at least seven Talibaninfo-icon militants and wounded another six in the provincial capital of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Thursday, but the rebels claimed the slain people were students of a seminary.

Hadi Jamal, 217th Pamir Military Corps deputy spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the airstrikes were carried out in Chaqor Qashlaq area of Kunduz City, the provincial capital, late Wednesday night.

Seven Taliban militants, including their military director Qari Mansour, were eliminated, six were wounded and four others detained alive in the nighttime operation. Jamal said a number of Taliban hideouts were also destroyed in the raids.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement also confirmed the airstrikes and said six Taliban were killed and a seventh wounded and their three hideouts destroyed.

Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok that the bombardment took place following a clash in their area late Wednesday night.

The Taliban, however, confirmed the airstrikes, but said the slain individuals were students of a seminary in Kuduz city.
