JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Revenue from honey produce jumped to 125 million afghanis in eastern Nangarhar province this year, an official said on Thursday.

Innamullah Miakhel, the Agricultureinfo-icon Department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News round 600 bee-keeping farms containing 25,000 boxes produced 500 tons honey this year.

He said one kilogram of good quality honey was priced at 250 afghanis and the 500 tons honey generated 125 million afghanis revenue, employing 3000 individuals in the province.

Meanwhile, Riaz Mohammad Rodwal, the Beekeeping Association head, told Pajhwok this year’s honey harvest increased by 100 tons compared to last year’s due stable security situation that enabled people to save beekeeping farms around the Spin Ghar mountain.

He added 10 honey processing plants existed in Nangarhar and if artificial forests were created for new generation, the honey produce would significantly surge in near future.

Noor Ahmad, a honey shopkeeper in Jalalabad city, told Pajhwok that Nangarhar has a good bazaar for honey as compared to other provinces.

He said, “Honey has different types but the proper one is priced 250 afghanis per kilogram, which has good taste and buyers.”
