KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Not a single development project has been implemented in the Chahar Dara district of northern Kunduz province over the past 10 years, residents complain.

Ahmad Shah, an inhabitant of Chahar Dara, told Pajhwok Afghan News many areas of the district had been under Talibaninfo-icon’s control this past decade.

“There is always fighting in the district, where no project could be implemented so far. There has been no report on project implementation. Whatever news we have is about conflict,” he remarked.

Haji Nisar, another resident, agreed little work had been done for the embattled district. “The government must maintain security and then execute projects suggested by the people.”

Other residents held similar views and urged the rulers to assess their problems and take serious measures for rebuilding the district.

Toryalai Kakar, a member of the provincial council, also called on the government to focus on the security and reconstructioninfo-icon of Chahar Dara.

Khalil Qarizada, another member of the council, also assailed the government for its failure on the security and reconstruction front.

“Residents of Chahar Dara come to the Provincial Council on a daily basis and speak of the problems they face. We share their issues with higher-ups, but to no avail,” he added.

In response to the complaints, Hafizullah Safi, the district’s administrative chief, said conflict was the reason behind the inadequate work done in the district. But a number of projects were currently being implemented, he explained.

“Six projects are underway to harness river water. Four schools are under construction. A water supply scheme for 600 families is being executed and three mosques are being built,” he concluded.
