KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Differences between the acting minister of hajjinfo-icon and religious affairs and former lawmaker Mullahinfo-icon Tarakhel Mohammadi were resolved on Wednesday. Tarakhel was fined $300,000.

Four months back, Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs Abdul Hakim Munib was insulted and physically attacked by six strongmen, including Mullah Tarakhel.

Munib was allegedly attacked while he offering Friday prayers in a mosqueinfo-icon at the Presidential Palace. MPs Shah Wazir, Khan Tarakhel, Mullah Tarakhel and three of his relatives roughed up Munib.

The strongmen had previously tried to force Munib into accepting their illegal demands. The case was referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO) by President Ashraf Ghani. However, the AGO has taken no decision yet.

However, the row was sorted out as a result of efforts by a tribal jirgainfo-icon, which announced bringing about a patch-up between the two men at a huge gathering here.

The meeting was attended by several government officials, members of parliament, politicians and tribal elders.

Mohammad Omar Hotak, who participated in the meeting, said a 14-member delegation, authorised by both sides, made the decision.

Hotak said the jirga, considering the social personality of Abdul Munib, asked Mullah Tarakhel to pay him $300,000 in fine and slaughter two lambs at the minister’s residence.

Tarakhel told the gathering: “Munib has been a friend of my father since the jihadinfo-icon era. He is like my brother and I apologise to him over differences between him and my family members.”

He said any decision taken by the jirga would be acceptable to him.

Munib said the issue between him and Tarakhel was small, but the media played it up. “In respect of the jirga, I would accept part of the fine. Accept the jirga decision is mandatory.”
