PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon says it will continue to play an effective role in defusing tensions and bringing lasting stability to the region.

At a weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said Pakistan had welcomed the resumption of the US-Talibaninfo-icon talks.

She hoped the peace negotiations in Doha would conclude soon on a successful note, leading to infra-Afghan dialogue.

Farooqui told a questioner US envoy Alice Wells might visit Pakistan for talks on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and regional situation.

Also on Thursday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the Taliban had expressed their willingness for reduction in violence.

In a video message, he called Taliban’s readiness represented a step toward a peace agreement with Afghanistaninfo-icon. “We want the entire region to move towards peace, which benefits both Pakistan and Afghanistan.”
