KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The best way to reduce civilian casualties is to reduce violence, the US force in Afghanistaninfo-icon (USFOR-A) said on Friday.

“We are committed to reducing violence in accordance with the will of the Afghan people,” a spokesman for USFOR-A said.

A day earlier, the Talibaninfo-icon announced their willingness for a brief ceasefire with the United States and reducing attacks on the Afghan armed forces.

“After discussions over the past few weeks, our leadership council has agreed to a 10-day ceasefire with the US,” a Taliban leader told Pajhwok Afghan News.

On Friday, the USGOR-A official said pointless violence would not go unchecked or unanswered. The US forces tried their best to avoid unnecessary human suffering, he added.

By the same token, the spokesman said, the US troops in Afghanistan also did all they could to avoid damage to civilian infrastructure.
