Ghani orders removal of roadside barricades in Kabul

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has ordered the removal of roadside barricades in Kabul City and warned the Kabul Educationinfo-icon department over students’ harassment, a statement from the Presidential Palace said Saturday.

As part of the national debate process, the president held a meeting on Saturday morning with representatives from seventh and 13th municipal districts of Kabul City to hear their problems, views, demands and suggestions.

From the visiting delegation, Mohammad Amin Ghairat, Mualvi Abdul Rahman, Sema Gul Jamali, Eng. Khoshal Yar, Mohammad Arif Haidari spoke on the occasion about various issues they faced and thanked the president for inviting them to the Presidential Palace and direct communication with people.

They shared their suggestions and made demands including creation of transport system in the city, construction of streets and roads, supply of clean drinking water, security, collection of garbage, prevention of land grabbing, improvement in level of education, womeninfo-icon issues and their rights.

They also mentioned lack of parks and greenery, high price of woods and energy materials, construction of Shah Tot Dam, prevention of drugs, removal of barricades from streets and roads, prevention of crimes, registration of mosques and some other issues.

After hearing their demands, the president ordered reforms in Kabul police and improvement of security in the city. Fearing national police should change into trust and Kabul should become a safe place, he said.

“Your suggestions and recommendations would become a plan and without your cooperation Kabul City cannot become secure.”

He said current steps taken by the authorities of Kabul were not enough and they should resolve all problems in six months and get satisfaction of people.

The president said opportunity to get advantage of solar energy should be provided, directing the Afghanistaninfo-icon Breshna Shirkat head to solve electricity related problems, specially relating to electricity meters.

He said everyone should know the importance of electricity and giving priority to government offices or officials over other people in electricity distribution was not acceptable.

He directed the Kabul Education Department head to prepare a plan for eradication of students’ harassment, specially girls,’ otherwise his department would be revoked.

The president termed drug dealers similar to terrorists and ordered strict action against them.
