Jan 18, 2020 - 19:03

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A 33 percent hike in liquid gas price in less than a month period has worried the residents of western Herat province.

A number of residents told Pajhwok Afghan News the gas price fast increased with the advent of winter.

According to Pajhwok Afghan News, the price one kilogram of liquid gas rose from 45 afghanis per kilogram to today’s (Saturday) 60 afghanis in one month.

The residents said businessmen were taking illegal advantage of winter while the government was tightlipped over the issue.

Abdul Ahad, a resident, said: “Unfortunately the price of liquid gas goes up every day. Businessmen have deliberately increased the gas price and the government is paying no attention to the problem.”

Ghulam Mahbob, another resident of Herat, said: “When weather gets colder, the price of gas goes up, there is no one to inquire about the issue.”

One month ago, the price of one kilogram of liquid gas was 45 afghanis, compared to its today’s 60 afghanis.

Governor spokesperson JilaniFarhad said a delegation has been tasked to investigate complaints of residents regarding surge in gas price.

“A delegation comprising representatives of different government institutions has been formed to control prices in market and select a specific price list for consumers.”

He said companies purchased one kilogram of gas for 51 afghanis and sold to ordinary consumer against 55 afghanis.”
