KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Lawmakers from western region on Saturday criticized the government for not constructing the Ghorinfo-icon-Herat-Kabul highway and demanded allocation of further budget for the road.

Ghulam Faroq Majroh, a lawmaker from Herat province, told a press conference here that their aim was to defend the rights of Ghor people.

He called Ghor one of the country’s important provinces and regretted non-construction of Ghor-Herat highway in several years.

Majroh stressed budget for construction of the route should be allocated in the next or 1399 fiscal year’s budget plan and said discrimination should be ended and people provided with rights they deserved.

Gul Zaman Naib, a lawmaker from Ghor province, also said that special fund should be allocated for construction of Ghor roads.

He said they would stage protests if their demand for construction of Ghor roads was ignored.

Participants of the press conference said they would not approve the next year’s budget plan if special fund was not allocated for Ghor roads.

Gen. Ahamd Khan Ghori, an advisor to the president who was also present on the occasion, said that the people of his province were deprived of all facilities and were paid no attention.

The lawmakers also issued a resolution letter that said not even a single meter of road between Ghor and Herat provinces was asphalted during the last 18 years and the budget required for construction of the highway between the two neighboring provinces should be allocated in next year’s budget plan.

The letter said discrimination against provinces should be prevented otherwise people would be forced to stage civil movements for taking their rights.

Mir Rahman Rahmani, speaker of the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon in today’s session of the house about the lack of attention to projects in Ghor said that Finance and Budget Commission of the house should look into the matter.

He asked lawmakers to share their complaints regarding projects in their provinces with the Finance and Budget Commission of the house.
