MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon have killed six members of a family, including children and womeninfo-icon, in northern Faryab province, local officials claimed on Sunday. But the militants denied the allegation.

Sultan Mohammad Sangar, Andkhoi district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Taliban gunmen entered the house of Younis and gunned down all his family members on Saturday night.”

He said the shooting resulted in the killing of six members of the family, including three girls, two sons and a grandson of Younis. A woman and a newborn baby were wounded.

The official called the shooting a retaliatory action from the insurgents. He said Younis’ son-in-law had been a Taliban member, but recently he renounced the insurgency and returned to normal life. That was why the militants attacked the family, the official explained.

A Taliban leader confirmed the incident, saying the shooting took place in government-controlled area. However, he denied Taliban’s involvement in the attack.

Mullahinfo-icon Ameen, a Taliban commander based in the district, said he was unaware of the incident. The three rebel commanders -- Baidar, Tofan and Mullah Ameen who have been accused of murdering the family -- were currently in Pakistaninfo-icon, he insisted.
