FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): A number of residents on Monday claimed donating land plots for 300 schools in western Ghorinfo-icon province but the authorities concerned have no plan for their construction.

Provincial educationinfo-icon department officials say some residents have given their land for construction of 300 schools.

In Ghor, 770 schools are functioning but 425 of them are housed in rented homes, tents and open skies.

Ali Ahmad, an inhabitant of Zartali area of Firozkoh City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News he donated 1.5 acre of land for construction of the school in their areas as the school had no building of its own, but the relevant authorities did nothing in this regard so far.

He urged the government to take measures for construction of the school building to facilitate its students who faced multiple issues.

Abbul Rahim Qasimi, another resident, said: “Hundreds of millions of afghanis have been given in aid to the province but unfortunately nothing was done for education. Most of schools lack buildings and textbooks across the province.”

Mohammad Ahadi, a civil societyinfo-icon activist, expressed his deep concern over the issue, saying students of 400 schools were taught in inappropriate places.

He said, “Many people have donated their personal land to schools but the government is doing nothing to construct buildings for these schools.”

He said, “I think the government has no plan for construction of such schools in the province.”

A number of other residents and activists held similar views and urged the government to launch construction work on the schools.

Ahmad Sabir Noori, education director, told Pajhwok that a number of Ghor residents had given them land for construction of around 300 schools in the province.

He said efforts were underway to launch construction works on these schools’ buildings until spring.
