Jan 21, 2020 - 20:16

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok):  Internally displaced families from Faryab, Badghis and Ghorinfo-icon provinces are complaining about lack of food and firewood in western Herat province and fear their children and women may die of severe cold.

Attaullah, who lives with his family in Shidai area of Herat City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they lacked food and non-food items. He accused the government of not helping them.

Jan Mohammad, another displaced man from the same area, said the displaced families belonged to Maimana, Ghor and Badghis and they had been displaced by instability and drought in their areas.

“So far we have not received any domestic or foreign assistance despite our exposure to harsh cold weather.”

Ma Gul, a displaced woman who lives with her little children in a tent, said they had nothing for eating and as well firewood. She urged the government to help their children survive the cold.

A number of displaced families held similar views and urged the government to provide them food and non-food items.

Meanwhile, Herat local officials say they have distributed 15 million afghanis cash assistance to the displaced families in the province.
