Copper mine contract revoked due to conflict: Governor

SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): Governor Abdul Qadir Ashna on Wednesday said the Balkhab Copper mining contract was revoked and work suspended on Shorabak Dam due to continuation of the conflict in northern Sar-i-Pul province.

The governor was addressing a conference “Dispute Resolution and Peace”, in which high level government officials, civil societyinfo-icon activists, womeninfo-icon activists and residents of Gosfandi district participated.

Ashana said 33 Talibaninfo-icon militants reconciled with the government in cooperation with the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) this ongoing solar yearinfo-icon.

Due to continuation of thte conflict in the province, he said, the contract of Balkhab Copper Mine and construction of Shorabak Dam had stopped and the government was unable to implement most of its development projects.  He said the masses should be encouraged to work for peace and reconciliation.

Religious scholar Syed Ahmad Jawad thanked the local government for its efforts at resolving disputes in the province and asked the government to facilitate educationinfo-icon and generate jobs.
