KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Womeninfo-icon’s employment in government departments has increased by 20 percent in northern Kunduz province, thanks to public awareness programs and ensuring work safety, an official said Wednesday.

Nasibi Holgar, the Women Affairs Department director, told Pajhwok Afghan News in an inclusive interview that two years ago women made 10 percent of government servants but now their number had increased by 20 percent in the province.

She said, “Women showed bravery by taking part in open competition exams to get job.”  She called on other women to appear in open competitions for job in government institutions.

On the other hand, some women, who work in government organizations, are happy with their job. They urged the government to provide further job opportunities to females.

Meanwhile, Rural Rehabilitations and Development Department spokesman Jamila Hussaini told Pajhwok that less number of women worked at government institutions due to some issues.

She said, “I don’t think the given number of women who work in government organizations is correct, but anyways we the women want further opportunities.”

Marzia Rustami, Kunduz women network director, said women’s participation in government institutions had increased but their overall situation remained unconvincing.

She said a large number of women were on job in healthcare and educationinfo-icon departments, not in other departments in the province.
