Jan 23, 2020 - 20:02

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of western Herat province on Thursday gathered in the sportsinfo-icon stadium in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, and asked the Talibaninfo-icon to agree to the ceasefire.

Mohammad Saeed, one of the participants of the gathering, told Pajhwok Afghanistaninfo-icon: “Our main demand from the Taliban is to observe ceasefire so that we could move forward towards durable peace.”

Jalil Ahmad, another participant, said: “Allah says that there is welfare in peace we all sides to agree to a ceasefire and strive for durable peace and stability.”

Nooria Afghan, a civil societyinfo-icon activist, said most of the participants of the gathering are womeninfo-icon, adding that women mostly needed peace than everyone else.

“Women are one the most underprivileged section of society, we want the conflicting parties to enter ceasefire,” she said.

Governor Abdul Qayyoum Rahimi during a meeting with these people said that peace and ceasefire was the logical and righteous demand of the people.

“Peace is needed to be done with the people of Afghanistan not with Pakistaninfo-icon and in the past we experienced that such practices did not have a positive outcome,” he said.
