Jan 25, 2020 - 15:47

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants believed shot down an Afghan National Army (ANA) helicopter in southern Helmand province, injuring at least four soldiers onboard, the military said Saturday.

In a statement, the 215 Maiwand Military Corps said a rocket hit the chopper while landing on the base with supplies for ANA personnel in Kajaki district.

It said four ANA soldiers were wounded and the chopper damaged.

Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, said the helicopter was landing in Maidancha of the district when hit by a rocket from unknown direction.

The Taliban have so far made no comment about the incident, the fourth of its kind in two months.

Former Afghan Air Force commander Gen. Abdul WahabWardak said most of Afghan pilots did not observe rules and principles.

Former Minister of Defence official Gen. DawlatWaziri said Afghan helicopters were Russian while their pilots trained in the west.

He said a chopper must be checked carefully after each fight and restored but Afghan engineers did not follow such rules.

Fawad Aman, MoD spokesman, said last month a helicopter crashed in western Faarah due to technical issues and two others made emergency landing.
