GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Some Provincial Council members and residents of southern Ghazni province on Saturday said development funds from this year’s budget went only to five of total 18 districts of the province.

They say most areas in their districts are peaceful and uplift projects could be implemented there.

Abdul Majid Zharand, a resident of Ghazni City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that districts which have representatives in Parliament had been allocated development budget in this fiscal year.

“From the past ten years, representatives from Mahwar, Malestan and Jaghori districts are in Parliament and they get development projects,” he said.

He criticized the government for carrying out no development work in more than 14 districts of Ghazni where Pashtuninfo-icon people live.

Mohammad Ayan, a civil societyinfo-icon activist, said development budget for only five districts had been allocated.

“Since Pashton people have no lawmakers in parliament, they have been deprived of development projects in their areas,” he said.

Provincial Council Member Abdul Jamai Jamai said 40 uplift projects had been recommended to the Ministry of Finance.

“Only four projects have been approved and four more would be implemented by the Indian government,” he said.

Jamai claimed injustice in distribution of funds for Ghazni and demanded reconsideration of the policy.

Governor Wahidullah Kalimzai said the issue that only five districts got uplift budget funds may not be true.

“We have started investigation into this and if the issue is right, I will personally visit Kabulinfo-icon,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that the lower house has recently approved budget for next fiscal year.

After approval of the budget from the parliament, a list was distributed in which Jaghori district got 14 development projects, Qarabagh five, Malistan six, Andar and Nahor one each.
