KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): American aircraft dropped 7,423 munitions on targets in different parts of Afghanistaninfo-icon last year -- up from the 7,362 weapons released in 2018.

Airpower statistics from the US Air Force’s Central Command suggest more munitions were dropped across Afghanistan in 2019 than during any other year since 2009.

In 2019, the US military conducted 2,434 sorties as part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel and NATOinfo-icon's Resolute Support mission, according to the data.

A dramatic surge has been seen in munitions releases under the Trump administration rising from 947 and 1,337 in 2015 and 2016. On the campaign trail, Trump had vowed to "bomb the shit" out of the Islamic State militant outfit.
