KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A former South African cricketer has been appointed as batting coach for the national squad, the board says.

The tenure of HD Ackerman, who played four Tests for South Africa in 1998, would begin with a three-match T20I series against Ireland in March.

As a first-class cricketer, Ackerman has an impressive record, with 14,625 runs at an average of 43.65. He scored 40 hundreds, including an unbeaten 309.

Afghanistaninfo-icon’s coaching staff is led by his former international teammate Lance Klusener, who was appointed in September last year

The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed Ackerman would start working with the team ahead of the national team’s three-T20I series in India against Ireland, which would be followed by a one-off Test.

The T20I series against Ireland will be played in Greater Noida, near the Indian capital of New Delhi, on March 6, 8 and 10.
