Af-Pak interface on the cards to curb tax evasion

Af-Pak interface on the cards to curb tax evasion

Jan 31, 2020 - 08:55

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Islamabad eyes collaboration at the government level with Kabulinfo-icon to prevent under-invoicing, tax evasion and underassessment of goods, a federal official said on Friday.

A recent cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, decided on the creation of an electronic data interface with Afghanistaninfo-icon, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was directed to set up the proposed electronic data interface with Afghanistan within 20 days. The board will take the relevant ministries and agencies on board.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News the FBR would work with Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Information Technology and Telecommunication on how to set up the interfaces.

A special inter-ministerial committee, with representatives from FBR and the ministries concerned, had been created to enforce the decision, he revealed.

The FBR has been asked to send final drafts to the federal cabinet for approval after an exchange of agreements. The drafts will be shared with the four countries later on.

The electronic data interfaces -- containing import-related details -- will be linked up with systems at all customs stations, dry ports and other entry and exit points.
