KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A renowned US documentarian will join forces with Amblin Television to produce a documentary series and a scripted drama series based on an investigation by The Washington Post into the war in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Highlighting the clandestine nature of the war in Afghanistan, the Post papers exposedthe frustrations, concernsand blunt acknowledgements of failures from military and government insiders.

Alex Gibney, who has won Oscarand Emmy awards, owns Jigsaw Productions, which would team up with Amblin TV to develop both a limited scripted series and a docuseries, reported the Deadline.

They will work with Craig Whitlock, the reporter who uncovered the story, to develop the TV projects. Discussions on the twin projects with potential distributors are ongoing.

Gibney will produce the projects in collaboration with Jigsaw's Stacey Offman and Richard Perello and Amblin TV co-presidents Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

The Afghanistan project is a vital story unfolding at a critical moment,according to Gibney, who promised an honestaccount from insiders of the epic tale of the longest war in US history.

“Politicians regale us with victory speeches while day by day, casualties mount and the battle is lost for hearts and minds,” he remarked.

Amblin and Jigsaw will have access to the files, recordings, research and materials The Post obtained as part of its investigations.
