KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Industrialists on Sunday said the government was willing to give them land outside Kabul but they did not agree with it due to insecurity in provinces.

Some industrialists held a press conference at the Industrialists Association office in Kabul and asked the government to provide them land.

Haji Noor Agha Sediqi, an industrialist, told the press conference that they had been using land against rent for the past 10 years and as well as paying taxes to the government, but in return they were provided no facilities.

According to him, more than 240 factories are functioning in Kabul on rented landed and each factory pays from $500 to $10000 in rent each month.

A number of other industrialists held similar views and urged the government to provide them land in Kabul as they would not invest in provinces due to insecurity.

Haji Wazeen Gul Zadran, the Kabul Chamber of Commerce and Industry deputy director, said 240 factories still lacked land in Kabul while 150 Afghan investors in Pakistaninfo-icon wanted to bring their capital to Kabul but the government failed to give them land.

He urged President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and other relevant departments to provide investors with facilities.

He said under legislatives laws, the government was bound to distribute land to investors and pay attention to their safety and security.

Wahidullah Rohi, Afghanistaninfo-icon Chamber of Commerce and Industry parks’ director, told the presser that around 300 land plots within 16 industrial parks were ready for distribution but the government did not want to distribute land at the Pul-i-Charkhai industrial park of Kabul city.

He said the distribution of land at Pul-i-Charkhai industrial park had been stopped almost 16 years back and so far no investor had been able to acquire land there.

According to him, due to large number of applicants and environmental problems, land could not be distributed in such parks.

However, investors say if the government does not ensure their security in Kabul, it should assure their security in provinces.

Abdul Jabar Safi, the industrialists’ association head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that due insecurity, industrialists and investors had been unable to invest in provinces.

He urged the government leadership to address issues being faced by industrialists and investors.

He said if the government provided facilities to investors inside the country, no youth would join Talibaninfo-icon militant in future.

Abdul Raouf Shopon, a Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member from eastern Nangarhar province who was also present at the gathering, promised he will address investors’ land issue in cooperation with the lower house in near future.
