Feb 02, 2020 - 20:22

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Public Healthinfo-icon Minister Dr. Firozuddin Firoz on Sunday said all preparations were in place to bring back Afghan students from Wuhan city of China, but there was no need of haste.

A pneumonia outbreak was first reported in December in the city of Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province. Experts attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China.

The confirmed cases of coronavirus have reached 14,411 and deaths 305 in China.

Firoz on Sunday told a press conference in Kabul that Afghan students in Wuhan were safe.

He added all preparations were in place for shifting Afghan students from Wuhan.

He said, “If we bring all Afghan students to the country, it would put the live of 30 million countrymen at risk.”

He expressed deep concern and said coronavirus could infect 3,000 individuals within six months.

He said they had prepared a 300-bed hospital and a 100-bed in Kabul for treatment of coronavirus patients.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Dauat Iltaf, Worldinfo-icon Health Organization (WHO) preventative, , said no one should be shifted from Wuhan city of China this time to Afghanistaninfo-icon. He said only tests could not prevent the coronavirus threat.
