‘Taliban shot dead an Islamic scholar in Herat’

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): An Islamic scholar was shot dead by Talibaninfo-icon militants in western Herat province on Monday, officials said.

Jailani Farhad, governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban killed an Islamic scholar in a mosqueinfo-icon in Kahsan district of the province today.

He said that one another person was injured in the incident. The assailants managed to flee after the attack, but investigations are underway into the incident, he added.

Farhad said that the motive behind the incident was unknown. Taliban did not comment so far on the attack.

A week ago, Abdul Rahim Ahmadi, Hajjinfo-icon and Islamic Affairs director of Pashton Zarghon district of Herat was also shot dead by Taliban.

Herat residents worry about Islamic scholars being targeted by militants and ask the government to punish perpetrators of such attacks.
