Beating of education dept worker being probed

Beating of education dept worker being probed

Feb 05, 2020 - 15:00

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Authorities in eastern Nangarhar province say the beating of an educationinfo-icon department official by his senior will be investigated in accordance with the law.

The photo of Qari Rahmatullah, in charge of the documentation at the education department, has gone viral on social media. Tell-tale signs of beating are visible on his body.

A video is also circulating on social media, in which Rahmatullah accuses the education director and his bodyguards of beating, injuring and mistreating him.

“On Tuesday, I went to the director’s office for routine work. When I shared the issue with him, the director ordered his bodyguards to beat me. He stabbed me with a knife; you can see the marks of knife injuries on my hands,” he says.

But Hasibullah Shinwari, the education director, said the documentation head had a dispute with a security official of the department, calling the incident a conspiracy against him by some individuals.

He denied involvement in the case, promising an impartial investigation.

Mohammad Asif Shinwari, spokesman for the department, wrote on his Facebook account it was an internal issue of the education department, which had its own rule for dealing with such cases.

He added: “The rights of Qari will be protected in the framework of law. He is an asset to the education department and he will be posted where his experience is needed.”

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the issue would be seriously investigated in accordance with the law.
