Latest target killings worry Kandahar residents

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of this capital city of southern Kandahar province on Monday expressed their deep concern over the increasing incidents of targeted killings in the province.

They claimed target killings and crimes had increased in the provincial capital where no one felt secure.

A number of female and men military personnel have been killed during target killing incidents in Kandahar City over the past few weeks.

Khairullah, a resident of the 1st police district of Kandahar City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that people were scared after the latest target killing incidents in the city.

He said at least two or three target killing incidents occurred in the city on a daily basis, with the murderers escaping.

He said security organs had failed to arrest those committing such crimes in the city.

Abdul Khaliq, another resident, said target killings had been ongoing in the city from the past two decades.

He said hundreds of womeninfo-icon, men, influential figures and military personnel had lost their lives to the target killings in the province.

He said unfortunately security forces had failed to prevent such incidents from happening in the city.

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the authorities concerned to take measures to prevent target killing incidents in Kandahar city.

Bahir Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman, also confirmed the issue to Pajhwok and said efforts were underway to address the issue in near future.
